Code Enforcement

The Housing + Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) and the Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) are responsible for the enforcement of local land use regulations.

LADBS is responsible for enforcing the Zoning Code, while Zoning Code violations are investigated by both HCIDLA and LADBS. HCIDLA primarily investigates code violations related to rental properties containing more than one dwelling unit, such as duplexes and apartment buildings, as well as properties with more than one single-family dwelling. LADBS is responsible for investigating code violations for properties containing only one dwelling unit, in addition to commercial, industrial, and vacant buildings.

For more information on reporting code violations, visit the HCIDLA and LADBS websites.
